If you bought in The Promontory a few years ago, the pitch was probably about the park at the end of Alexandra Drive. The park is still there, still 18.7 acres, still the neighborhood's front lawn. What has changed is how much of the season now runs through it, and how quickly the five-minute perimeter around it has filled in with places worth walking or driving to.
This is a fall calendar for people who already live here. No relocation math, no evaluation of the neighborhood as a destination. Just what is actually happening between now and Halloween within a short radius of your driveway.
The park calendar has more on it than most residents track
The El Dorado Hills Community Services District programs Promontory Community Park more heavily in the fall than the summer splash pad crowd tends to notice. Four dates are worth putting on the fridge:
- Sunday, September 20, 2026, 9 a.m. A free CSD event at Promontory Park, preregistration required. This is the second of two Promontory Park mornings the district scheduled for 2026, following the June 28 date.
- Saturday, October 3, 2026, 9 a.m. The 6th Annual TRY-athlon for kids of all ages and abilities runs at the EDH Community Park & Pool, a short drive west on Harvard Way. Swim, bike, run or roll, free entry, finisher party at noon.
- Saturday, October 10, 2026, 1 to 3 p.m. Pumpkin Splash Patch at the CSD Community Pool for ages 2 to 12. Kids pick a pumpkin, decorate it, and swim. $18, pre-registration required.
- Friday, October 30, 2026, 4:30 to 7 p.m. Trunk-Or-Treat and Scarecrow Contest at the EDHCSD Pavilion parking lot. Free for the public, with trunk and scarecrow applications open September 8 through October 16 if you want to host rather than attend.
None of these events are new. What is new is the density. Between mid-September and Halloween, a family that never crosses Highway 50 has four district-run programs on its calendar without lifting a finger.
The hardware supports more than a jog and a playground
Promontory Community Park opened its first phase in 2007 and finished a second phase in 2009. The equipment inventory is unusual for a neighborhood park at this scale:
Two lighted bocce courts. Two lighted tennis courts. A lighted artificial turf field. A lighted adult softball field and a separate lighted girls softball field. Two children's play structures. A water spray ground open Memorial Day through Labor Day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Group picnic area with barbecues. Park hours are sunrise to 10 p.m., which matters once the light drops in October and the field lights are the only thing keeping practice going.
Two operational details residents get wrong regularly. The synthetic multi-use field is the only one of its kind in the CSD system, which is why competitive youth clubs book it out on weekends and why dogs are not permitted on it. The splash pad closes on Labor Day, so if you have been counting on it through late September, you are working off last year's plan.
The rentable picnic pavilion is worth knowing about for October birthdays. The CSD takes reservations through its resident services line, and pavilion availability tends to open up once the summer wedding-adjacent bookings clear.
The five-minute perimeter is thickening this quarter
The retail and dining layer around Town Center has been rearranging itself all year, and a few of the changes matter more for Promontory residents than for anyone else, because they cut down the reasons to drive to Folsom.
Kings Meats is opening its second location in September 2026. The Diamond Springs butcher, run by Casey King since February 2020, has leased a 4,000-plus square foot space behind OBO' (the former Sellands) at 4370 Town Center Blvd., Suite 110. King told What Now Sacramento the El Dorado Hills store will carry Wagyu, dry-aged and upper-tier Choice beef, Beeler's Pure Pork, Smart Chicken, house-made sausages, and marinated tri-tip, plus an expanded specialty cheese program and to-go wine and beer. For a Promontory kitchen, this is the difference between planning a Saturday grocery run around the freezer at a big-box store and picking up dinner on the way home.
Marshall's opened a 25,000 square foot store at Town Center. The scale is worth naming because it changes what Town Center can absorb. A store that size is not a filler tenant; it changes the anchor mix and pulls foot traffic that supports the smaller operators next door.
X-Golf, Boring Rose Brewing Co., Bonchon, Mikuni, and Encanto Cocina & Tequila Bar now all sit within the same walking loop. X-Golf is a bar and restaurant built around golf simulators. Boring Rose runs a hybrid taproom and plant shop pouring hazy IPAs, a West Coast IPA, a Kölsch-style ale, and an oatmeal stout alongside succulents and tropicals. Bonchon brought Korean fried chicken. Mikuni took the former Aji Japanese Bistro space. Encanto, from Eliud Moreno of Friends With Benedicts, occupies the former Chando's Cantina space next to Regal.
Add the recently signed Posh Bagel leases at two EDH centers and Pacific Coast Pasta Co. on the lunch side, and the practical result is that a weekday errands loop covers more categories without leaving the immediate radius.
The Sunday routine no longer requires the freeway
If you have been driving to Folsom for a farmers market out of habit, stop.
The Certified Farmers' Market at Town Center runs every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through the fall season, with produce, flowers, baked goods, and live music while you shop. It is a five-minute drive from most Promontory addresses.
Theater Plaza Tuesdays continues through early fall, with local restaurants running small bites, live music in the plaza, and the Regal theater running $1 Summer Movie Express nights on select dates. The Folsom Lake Symphony's Live on the Boulevard series remains the anchor cultural programming on the Town Center calendar.
For anyone who wants live music in a park rather than a plaza, the CSD's Hot Summer Nights Concerts in the Park series has been programming at the El Dorado Hills Community Park at 1021 Harvard Way, ten minutes from The Promontory. Free, with bounce houses and food.
The interesting question for a Promontory resident this fall is not whether the neighborhood has enough to do. It is whether you have adjusted your defaults to reflect what is now within five minutes.
What this actually adds up to
Three years ago, a full Saturday for a Promontory family looked like: park in the morning, drive to Folsom for lunch and errands, drive home. The freeway was not optional.
The fall 2026 version looks different. Morning at the park during the September 20 CSD event or a bocce court booking. Farmers market at Town Center by 11. Lunch at Encanto, Mikuni, or the Pacific Coast Pasta counter. Butcher stop at Kings Meats for the evening's ribeye once the September opening lands. Marshall's for whatever the season demands. Home by dinner without ever merging onto Highway 50.
That is not a marketing pitch. It is a scheduling observation. The neighborhood was built around the park, and the retail layer around it has finally caught up to the household density inside The Promontory's boundary.
The one date on the fall calendar that will absorb the most of your evening is October 30, when the Trunk-Or-Treat runs at the EDHCSD Pavilion. Applications for hosting a trunk or a scarecrow close October 16. If your kids are old enough to want in, that deadline is the one to write down.
Everything else runs on its own schedule, and none of it requires a decision from you beyond showing up.
